August 1st: Celebrating what unites us, honouring what connects us

Written by Piguet Galland | Aug 1, 2025 9:30:00 AM

On this August 1st, Switzerland comes together to celebrate its history, its diversity, and the ties that unite its cantons, regions, languages, and people.

The date is no coincidence: it commemorates the Federal Charter of 1291, signed by Uri, Schwyz, and Nidwalden – the founding act of the Swiss Confederation. Rediscovered in the 18th century, this document marks the beginning of a lasting alliance built on solidarity, freedom, and shared responsibility.

Since the first official celebration in 1891, the national holiday has become a cherished moment in our collective life. Across the country, bonfires light up the hills, bells ring out, and lanterns brighten the parades. On farms and village squares, around brunches and speeches, we celebrate a plural and deeply rooted identity.

A shared history, human connections

At Piguet Galland, we see in this Swiss heritage a natural echo of our approach to banking. Deeply anchored in our regions and close to the people who bring them to life, we foster sincere and personalised relationships, built on trust and attentive listening.

This is what Intimate Banking means: a human, tailored approach in service of life projects as unique as our landscapes and cultures.

Celebrating what inspires us

The national holiday is more than a symbol – it invites us to nurture what brings us together. In a constantly changing world, the ability to build lasting bonds – between individuals, generations, and regions – is more precious than ever.

Today, we honour the roots, values, and shared vision that make Switzerland so rich. We wish you a warm, meaningful, and joyful August 1st.

Happy Swiss National Day to all. May this day be a celebration of what unites us.
