How do you assess the need for energy renovation?
The first step in your energy renovation project is to assess your needs. Several steps can be taken, ranging from obtaining CECB® certification to obtaining planning permission.
CECB® certification
The CECB® energy efficiency certificate at the national level assesses your building's energy performance. You must call in a certified expert to carry out the assessment. Once completed, the CECB® will be returned to you as a detailed four-page report. This document indicates the envelope's quality, the building's overall energy balance, and direct CO₂ emissions.
It is valid for ten years. In some cantons, obtaining it becomes compulsory when you change ownership or undertake renovation work on your heating system. For more information, visit the Groupe E CECB® website.
Asbestos diagnosis
This assessment is mandatory for any building constructed before 1st January 1991 when considering transformation or demolition work, especially with regard to insulating materials. The removal of asbestos can result in significant additional costs during renovation.
Planning permission
Any work that alters a site above or below ground requires planning permission. To obtain one, you need to contact your local authority.
How can you obtain a grant for your energy renovation?
Cantonal or municipal grants may be available to help you undertake your energy renovation project, whether for the renovation itself or to obtain certification or an energy efficiency assessment.
The Confederation's Buildings Programme
The federal government and the cantons encourage energy efficiency and use of renewable energy in buildings. This programme provides subsidies for thermal insulation, replacing heating systems that use fossil fuels or electricity with renewable energies (heat pumps, solar collectors, etc.) or connection to a heating network, and complete renovation with Minergie or CECB® certification.
How do you organise the financing for your renovation project?
Our financing solutions specialists will be happy to discuss your renovation project with you and work out the steps you need to take to succeed.
